Shamis Elmi is the founder of Mogadishu Orphanage. Shamis worked for bilingual teacher assistant at Rhyl Primary School in Camden, Islington, for seven years; furthermore Shamis worked Sure Start for eight years. All together Shamis Elmi has 15 years of child care experience, she put the skills and professionalism of child care into Mogadishu Orphanage. Shamis herself was orphaned at an early age, she was raised by close relations. Her husband Tarzan "the former Mayor of Mogadishu" too was orphaned and raised in an orphanage. The couple are very passionate about giving loving home to orphans.

 

 
Local Staff

Because of the nature of running an orphanage, we require round the clock staff. There has to be an adult staff present at any given time.  Apart from Shamis Elmi there 17 employed staff, their duties are as follows:

 

1 Manager

1 Secretary

5 Teachers

2 Teachers assistants

2 Dinner ladies

1 Cook

1 Play-ground overseer

2 Night carers

2 Watchmen.

Languages

 

Children are taught in Somali, English and Arabic.
